Amanda inspired her friend to ensure that her childcarer was first aid qualified in case of an accident. At that time, this was not a legal requirement for this sector. However, Amanda felt so strongly about this that she set up her own “First Aid for Childcarers©” course. As a trained medic, Amanda firmly believed that everybody should have first aid training especially those responsible for youngsters.

It is now recommended by OFSTED that every childcarer should have training in first aid, which should be at least 12 hours duration.

This is a 12-hour course and it provides a 3-year nationally recognised qualification. It provides an opportunity to gain up-to-date practical skills to NCMA, PLA and OFSTED recognised standards and to develop knowledge and build confidence in a non-threatening and fun environment. This certificated course also provides the underpinning knowledge for the First Aid element within the NVC Care Syllabus.

Many changes have been taken place in this sector over the past 10 years and contributed in assisting this sector to obtain government funding to support training and development.
