HSE Warns of Hoax Health & Safety Organisations

Three North West companies have been falsely claiming to regulate H&S legislation.

Liverpool based Health and Safety Enforcement Agency, Manchester based Health and Safety Compliance Agency and Health and Safety Registration Enforcement Division in Rochdale, have contacted organisations across the UK demanding payments of up to £249 to ensure they comply with H&S law. The HSE have advised any companies receiving such literature to ignore it, stating there are no legal requirements to purchase any such literature or services from these companies.

Justin McCracken, HSE’s Deputy Director General, said, “None of these companies are connected to the HSE. Organisations should be very wary of any approach from these firms, or any company ‘offering’ similar services. All three firms use wording suggesting they are not. HSE never writes indiscriminately to firms seeking advance payment for services which it has not provided.”

If you receive any such information, please contact our office as OPTIMUM are assisting the HSE in the collection of data relating to these companies and others. If you are unsure of any literature received please contact our office for a free confidential discussion and advice.

New Accident Book

The Health and Safety Executive launched its new Accident Book at the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Conference for Occupational Health and Safety.

The new book will help organisations to comply with Data Protection legislation.

Accident BookExisting accident books allow personal details and information to be seen by anyone reading or making an entry in the book. The previous version, produced by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), and other similar books do not comply with the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA).

A seven month lead-time was given so that businesses were able to change their accident book to comply with the DPA by 31 December 2003. The new design allows for accidents to be recorded, while details of individual(s) can be stored separately in a secure location.

In addition to recording incidents, the new book also contains useful information on first aid and how to manage health and safety information, to help prevent accidents from happening in the first place.

For your new copy of the accident book, priced at £4.75 + PP + VAT contact our adviser on 01244 342133.
